Egenolf Gallery Japanese Prints

Early 20th Century Landscape Prints
Kawase Hasui (1883-1957) and his contemporaries captured scenes of Japan that offer both a snapshot of a specific place in time as well as a sense of timelessness in the abiding beauty of the Japanese landscape. The centuries of woodblock printing tradition also gave the carvers and printers an unparalleled capacity to bring to life the artists’ intentions. This tradition as well as many of the landscapes that were captured are today just fractions of their former selves.
